Let’s support our local baseball clubs

Green Bay is a football town, but we are fortunate to have two collegiate summer league baseball teams in the area. The Green Bay Blue Ribbons play in the Wisconsin State League at historic Joannes Park while the Green Bay Rockers play in the Northwoods League at Capital Credit Union Park. These teams provide the people of Green Bay with affordable family fun throughout the summer. We should go out to the ball games and “root, root, root” for our home teams.

The Blue Ribbons and the Rockers are stocked with players who love “America’s pastime” and who are aiming to improve their skills over the summer so they can contribute more to their college teams next spring. Some of the players are playing for the possibility of being drafted by a Major League team or picked up by an independent ball team. All of them play with infectious youthful enthusiasm and energy that is fun to watch.

At a time when the price of everything seems to be skyrocketing, it is comforting to find something that is still relatively affordable. Admission to see the Blue Ribbons will set you back $3 while tickets to a Rockers game start at $11. Either way, the price of watching these teams is well worth the cost. We should back our teams and pack the ballparks because the players are there for us. Let’s show civic pride and support the players who wear Green Bay on their jerseys.
